White Lamborghini Huracan Spyder with the roof down and red seats, front three quarter view with palms behind, the best car to rent for graduation

Most people plan a graduation rental around the fastest car they can find. The photos matter more than the speed. So the best car for graduation is the one that looks right next to a cap and gown. For most graduates, that car is the white Lamborghini Huracan Spyder. It rents for $1,195 a day, and the roof folds down in about 17 seconds. If your family needs seats, take the Mercedes-Benz G63. The BMW M4 and the Chevrolet Corvette C8 cost less.

The white Huracan Spyder for the photos

Picture the car parked outside your ceremony in Irvine with the roof down. The paint is white, and the seats are black and red. You stand next to the door in your gown while your family takes the photo. Every vent and crease on the body shows up, even in hard midday sun. A darker car can turn into a flat shape in that same light.

You can't pick the hour of your ceremony, so the color has to work at any time of day. White is the Huracan color that does. With the roof down, the red seats give the photo its contrast.

The roof can drop while the car rolls at low speed. You can leave the parking lot with the roof up and lower it on the way out. The 5.2 liter V10 in this car makes 610 horsepower. In Strada mode, the exhaust stays quiet in a crowded parking lot. Switch to Corsa on the drive to dinner, and you hear the full V10.

The catch is that the Huracan Spyder holds only two people. That works for you and one guest, and the rest of the family follows in another car.

The G63 when the family rides with you

Graduation is usually a family day. Your parents and a grandparent may want to ride with you to the ceremony. For that day, take the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon AMG G63. It seats five across four doors. The black G63 with a black and red interior rents for $695 a day.

Pull up to dinner in Newport Beach after the ceremony. The valet opens the door, and you hear the mechanical thunk Mercedes never changed. Your grandmother uses the grab handle in front of the passenger seat to climb in. That handle is there because the first G-Wagon was built for the military.

The black paint keeps the square shape sharp in photos. The red cabin shows up once a door is open. Under the hood is a 577 horsepower twin turbo V8, and the side pipes rumble at idle. It reaches 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and the nose lifts when you press the gas hard.

The BMW M4 for you and a friend

Some graduates want the drive more than the arrival. The grey BMW M4 Competition is the car for that plan. It rents for $495 a day. It has four seats and a full trunk, so a friend and your bags fit for a weekend.

This M4 sends all 503 horsepower to the rear wheels. You feel it as the car leaves each corner. Take it up Highway 74 above Palm Desert the morning after the party. The grey paint keeps the car quiet in town. The black and white cabin looks sharp when you open the door for a photo.

The Corvette C8 for $345 a day

The orange Corvette C8 Stingray 3LT rents for $345 a day. It is the least expensive car in this post. The engine sits behind your seat, and strangers often guess Ferrari or McLaren before they see the badge. The 6.2 liter V8 makes 490 horsepower. The orange paint over a white cabin stands out from across a parking lot.

Picture the drive from a ceremony in Riverside to a family dinner. The 3LT trim adds a leather wrapped dash and doors, a suede headliner, and GT2 seats. You notice those over a long day more than in the first ten minutes. The Corvette seats two, the same as the Huracan. Its luggage splits between a front trunk and a rear trunk.

What you need to rent at 18 or 21

You can rent any of these cars at 18. You need a valid driver's license and proof of full coverage insurance in your own name. A larger deposit may apply if you're under 25. That's the whole list.

The insurance part is where most first rentals get stuck. Your policy has to cover a car that isn't listed on it, which is called non-owner vehicle coverage. Before the rental, we call your insurance company and confirm it with an agent on a recorded line.

Credit card rental coverage almost never applies, because most card benefits exclude cars worth more than $50k to $75k. Send your license and insurance details well before your ceremony in Pasadena. Then the morning of graduation is about the gown, the photos, and the keys.

Graduation car rental rates, deposits and miles

Each rate below is for one day with 100 miles included.

  • White Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, $1,195 a day, $1,000 deposit, $5 per extra mile
  • Black Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon AMG G63, $695 a day, $1,000 deposit, $3 per extra mile
  • Grey BMW M4 Competition, $495 a day, $1,000 deposit, $4 per extra mile
  • Orange Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray 3LT, $345 a day, $1,000 deposit, $3 per extra mile

The deposit is a hold on your card, not a charge. It's released after the car comes back in the condition it left. Rentals of 3 to 4 days take 10% off the daily rate. That discount helps when the ceremony, the party and the drive home cover a long weekend.

We deliver the car to your home or hotel, and the delivery fee is quoted by address. The Huracan can be waiting outside your door in La Jolla on the morning of the ceremony. Book a week or two ahead for most dates. Summer weekends and holiday weekends go first, so book earlier if your ceremony lands on one.

Picking the best car for graduation

Start with who rides in the car. One guest fits in the Huracan or the Corvette. Three or four family members need the G63. A friend and a weekend bag fit in the M4.

Then plan the night. If there's drinking at the party, there's a chauffeur or a sober driver for the ride home. Anyone else who drives goes on the contract before the rental starts. That driver passes the same license and insurance check as you.

The photo outside the ceremony will last longer than the rental. Choose the car for that photo first and for the seats second. A white Huracan Spyder with the roof down covers both for you and one guest.
