How It Drives
The seven speed dual clutch is what turns this naturally aspirated V10 from an engine into an event. In Corsa it fires through upshifts with a hard mechanical thump you feel through the seat, and it blips the throttle on every downshift whether you asked for it or not. Run it up Ortega Highway and 640 horsepower, 3.1 seconds to sixty, and rear wheel steering from the Evo update make the car turn in more keenly than its wheelbase should allow. Leave it in automatic and Strada through Irvine traffic and it shuffles along without complaint. Two buttons separate those two cars, and both live in this one.
How It Photographs
Blue over a black and orange cabin is the only combination of its kind in our fleet, and the orange is what you build the shoot around. With the roof down the cabin is fully exposed, so the orange runs right through the middle of a blue car and gives a colour relationship no coupe or plain black cabin can offer. Shoot it from slightly above with the top stowed near Newport harbour to get all of it in frame. The blue deepens considerably at dusk over the Lido peninsula. This car also carries the lowest per mile rate of our three Evo Spyders, which makes a longer coast run cheaper too.
Why This One
Blue over black and orange is a combination we have exactly one of. Our other blue Evo Spyder runs a plain black cabin, so with the roof stowed this is the only one where the interior adds a second colour to the frame rather than a dark gap. It also carries the lowest per mile rate of the three, $3 against $5, which makes it the better of the two blue cars for a longer coast run through Newport and Laguna. The larger $2,000 deposit is the trade for that lower mileage rate, worth it if the plan covers real distance.
