How It Drives
The Performante is the Huracan Lamborghini built to chase lap times, and the interesting part is the aerodynamics. Active flaps in the front splitter and the rear wing open and close to switch between low drag on Ortega Highway's straights and downforce through the bends of Santiago Canyon Road, and on the rear wing they can work one side at a time to help the car rotate. The bodywork uses Forged Composite, a chopped carbon fibre process that saves weight over the rest of the Huracan range. 631 horsepower and 3.1 seconds to sixty come with stiffer springs and a harder exhaust. It is the most focused Huracan we run, and it makes no apology for that.
How It Photographs
White is the right choice for a Performante because the aerodynamic hardware is the whole story, and a light body is the only way to see it clearly. The fixed rear wing, the deeper front splitter and the Forged Composite panels all read against white, where a dark car would swallow them. Shoot the rear three quarter low, near the concrete backdrop at South Coast Plaza, so the wing sits above the body line, and get in close on the composite texture, which looks nothing like ordinary carbon weave. The black and red cabin gives you a second frame once a door opens. Direct sun over Newport is fine here, unlike on our darker Huracans.
Why This One
This is the only Huracan in our fleet with active aerodynamics and Forged Composite bodywork. Flaps in the splitter and the rear wing open and close as you drive, which no other Lamborghini we keep does. That makes it the hardest edged of our Huracans and the one to book when Ortega Highway or Santiago Canyon Road is the actual plan rather than the photographs. It is also the most expensive Huracan on our row, at $1,395 a day. The Evo coupe is quicker in a straight line by a tenth, but nothing else we run turns in like this one does.

This is a Lamborghini Huracan Performante in white over a black and red cabin, based in Orange County. Standard on this trim is Forged Composite bodywork, active aerodynamics called ALA that adjust the front splitter and rear wing as you drive, stiffer suspension, and the 631 horsepower version of the 5.2 litre naturally aspirated V10 shared with the Evo. The cabin runs Alcantara across the wheel, dash and door cards, with fixed back bucket seats and column mounted paddles. There is no centre touchscreen on this generation. All wheel drive and carbon ceramic brakes carry through from the rest of the Huracan range.
