The Python Green Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 with the light grey interior is based in Los Angeles. It's the Boxster with the 4.0 flat-six, 394 hp and no turbo, which makes it the one you book for the drive itself, the coast morning, the birthday where you want wind and sound rather than a crowd. Green over grey with the top down is also the easiest Porsche to find in a photo. It serves Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.
The engine is the reason this one exists. A 4.0 litre flat-six with no turbo sits right behind your shoulders, 394 hp, and it revs past 7,000. Below 3,000 it's quiet enough for the valet line. Past 5,000 the note hardens into a howl you hear from the middle of the car, not the back of it. The PDK shifts for you or on the paddles, and in Sport it blips on the way down. Mid-engine balance means the nose goes where you point it with no weight behind you to manage, so it's entertaining at 45 mph with the fabric top down, which takes about 9 seconds and works on the move. PCH through Malibu is the road. Steady pace, roof down, the ocean on your left, and the engine doing the talking from Santa Monica to Point Dume.
Python Green over light grey, on black wheels, with a black fabric top that folds flat. In direct sun the green goes fluorescent and the camera wants to blow it out, so pull the exposure down a stop. In open shade it turns a deeper leaf green and the black wheels and side intakes carve the shape. After dark it reads nearly black with green edges, so shoot before the light goes. Take the rear three-quarter, top down, so the grey seats show against the green. Shoot the GTS 4.0 door script close. For the location, the dirt turnout at the Encinal Canyon summit looking toward Point Dume, or the curb outside the Malibu Country Mart.
We run 4 Boxsters. The base car in Orange County and the T in the Inland Empire are 2.0 turbo 4-cylinders at $295 and $395, and our custom-built Boxster S in San Diego is $395. This GTS 4.0 is the only one with the 4.0 flat-six, the only one based in Los Angeles and the only green one. $545 buys the engine the other 3 don't have, 394 hp against the 300 in the base car, and a colour nobody mistakes for a rental lot default.
The GTS 4.0 sits at the top of the Boxster line short of the Spyder. Standard on it is the 4.0 naturally aspirated flat-six with 394 hp, sport suspension lowered 20 mm, the sport exhaust with black tailpipes, 20-inch wheels, the GTS 4.0 door script and black trim where the base car has chrome. This one is Python Green with a black fabric top and black wheels. The interior is light grey, seats and all, with black trim, so the cabin reads light against the green when the top is down. PDK automatic with paddles. 2 seats, a trunk at each end, rear-wheel drive, 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds and 182 mph.
