718 Boxster
The 718 Boxster is the trim we run. It carries a 2.0 liter turbocharged flat-four making 300 hp and 280 lb-ft, 19 inch wheels, and 2 separate cargo areas totalling 9.6 cubic feet. The fabric roof drops in about 9 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph. Steering is the point of this car, not noise, and reviewers rate it among the most precise on sale.
718 Boxster T
The 718 Boxster T uses the same 300 hp flat-four as the base car and spends its money on chassis hardware instead. Porsche fits the lowered sport suspension, Sport Chrono, a shorter shift lever, 20 inch wheels and fabric door pulls in place of handles. We do not run the T. It is the base car sharpened rather than made faster.
718 Boxster S
The 718 Boxster S steps up to a 2.5 liter turbocharged flat-four with a variable geometry turbocharger, rated at 350 hp. The extra 50 hp arrives low in the rev range, so the S pulls harder out of a slow corner without changing the balance of the car. Brakes and tires grow with it. We do not run the S.
718 Boxster GTS 4.0
The 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 drops the turbocharged flat-four for a naturally aspirated 4.0 liter flat-six making 394 hp and revving past 7,000 rpm. That change answers the only real criticism of the cars below it, which is engine noise. The GTS builds to a crescendo where a turbocharged Boxster delivers a single long shove. We do not run it.
718 Spyder and Spyder RS
The 718 Spyder and 718 Spyder RS sit at the top of the Boxster line. The Spyder uses the 4.0 liter flat-six at 414 hp with a manual gearbox and a manually operated roof. The Spyder RS takes the 493 hp engine from the 911 GT3, comes with PDK only, and is the loudest and most extreme open Porsche. We run neither.
