Renting an Exotic Car for Prom in Orange County: How It Actually Works

A student can't rent an exotic car for prom. A parent rents it, and then either the parent drives or we arrange a chauffeur. Prom rentals run a few hundred dollars to about $1,500 depending on the car and how long you need it. Book 3 to 4 weeks out, because prom season in Orange County runs late April through early June and the popular cars go first.

Who rents the car

The person on the contract has to meet the same requirements as any other renter. That means a license held at least 2 years, insurance that extends to a rental vehicle, and a card for the deposit. Most prom attendees are 16 to 18, so that person is a parent or guardian. We verify the parent's insurance the same way we verify everyone's, with a call to the carrier before anything is paid.

Who drives it

Two options. A chauffeur picks the student up at the photo location, drives to the venue, and comes back for pickup at the end of the night. This is the most popular option and the one I'd recommend. Nobody has to think about a 17-year-old behind the wheel of a 640 horsepower car, and the parent still controls the rental.

The other option is the parent drives. Some families make the arrival a family moment, and it works. Just know that the student isn't driving under either option. That's not us being difficult, it's the insurance.

Which cars work for prom

The Rolls Royce Cullinan is the classic prom arrival. The rear doors open backwards, the cabin has room for a full dress, and it photographs like a movie. It's $1,495 to $1,595 for a full day, so ask about a shorter prom window.

The Lamborghini Urus is the showstopper. Loud, aggressive, 5 seats, and it makes the whole drop-off line turn around. $995 to $1,195 a day.

The Cadillac Escalade is the group option. 7 seats, so the whole friend group arrives together in one car. $295 to $595 a day, which split across a few families is not much.

The BMW M3 Competition is the budget option that still looks the part. $495 a day, 5 seats, and it reads as a performance car in every photo.

What it costs and how long you need it

Most prom rentals are a 4 to 6 hour block, not a full day. Ask us for prom pricing rather than the daily rate on the site, because a shorter window in a car that's free that evening is a deal we can usually make. Chauffeur service is extra and priced by the hour.

Timing and photos

Give us the pickup time, the photo location address, the venue address, and the return time. Tell your photographer the car is coming so they plan shots around it instead of squeezing it in.

For the pre-prom photos, Crystal Cove has the ocean behind you, the Fashion Island rooftop has clean architecture, and Balboa Island has the water and the boats. All three have room to park a car and set up a group.

Prom is the one rental where the person paying and the person enjoying it are never the same, so the more you sort out ahead of time, the better the night goes for both of you.
