The Maserati Ghibli is the 4-door Italian with the trident on the grille and a V6 that rasps.
The Maserati Ghibli is an Italian sport sedan with a twin-turbo V6 assembled in Maranello by Ferrari and exhaust valves that open at the press of a Sport button. Renters book it over a Mercedes-Benz S-Class when the night needs 4 doors and a trident at the valet rather than the badge every other car in the lot already wears.
Press the Sport button and the exhaust valves open, so the same V6 goes from quiet to a hard rasp past 3,000 rpm with 345 hp through an 8-speed automatic to the rear wheels. It is an image car first, the sedan for dinner with 3 friends, and the sound is the part they talk about after.
Maserati sold the Ghibli in 3 steps, the rear-drive Ghibli, the Ghibli S Q4 that later took the Modena name with more power and all-wheel drive, and the V8 Trofeo. We run the base Ghibli.
The Maserati Ghibli is the base car and the one we run, in black over black leather on silver multi-spoke wheels. The 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6 makes 345 hp through an 8-speed automatic to the rear wheels, with column-mounted paddles, frameless door glass and the Sport button that opens the exhaust valves. 4 doors, 5 seats and a real trunk.
The Maserati Ghibli S Q4 took the same V6 past 400 hp and added all-wheel drive, and in later years the S cars were renamed Ghibli Modena. It drives harder out of a wet corner and sounds the same, since the exhaust and the cabin carry over. We do not run the S Q4 or the Modena.
The Maserati Ghibli Trofeo is the top car, a 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 making 580 hp and sent to the rear wheels, with a carbon splitter, red accents in the badges and a Corsa mode on the drive selector. It is the fastest Ghibli and a rare one. We do not run the Trofeo.
