How It Drives
The W12 is one of the strangest engines ever put into production, and Bentley was the last company to use it properly in a convertible this size. Twelve cylinders arranged in a short W rather than a long V lets six liters of engine fit under a bonnet this length, and the 552 horsepower arrives as torque from almost idle, so the car never sounds like it is working. Sixty comes up in 4.8 seconds, quick for the weight but not the point of the car. Take it up Santiago Canyon Road with the top down and the cabin stays quiet enough to hold a conversation at speed, the air suspension soaking up the road's rougher patches rather than telegraphing them into the seat.
How It Photographs
Black with a brown interior is the most traditional Bentley combination in our fleet, and it photographs as heritage rather than performance. Brown hide against a dark body comes alive in warm evening light rather than under a hard midday sun, so shoot it near golden hour on Newport Coast Drive with the coastline behind it. Roof down with the cabin visible is where the stitching and the wood veneer actually read. Black paint wants controlled light rather than direct glare. The quad round headlamps and the tall upright grille are this generation's identifying details and are worth their own close frame.
Why This One
This is the only twelve cylinder Continental we run at this price and the least expensive Bentley in our fleet. Two of the other Continentals we run are white with V8 engines and rent for $200 a day more, and a fourth is a white First Edition with a newer, more powerful W12 at a higher rate again. If you want the deepest sounding, calmest version of this car and do not need it to be the quickest off the line, black over brown is the one to book, and it is honestly the bargain of the group. It is also the only genuinely old money color combination we run in this body style.

This is the first generation Continental GTC in our fleet, finished in black with a chocolate brown leather interior. Its 6.0 liter twin turbo W12 makes 552 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, sent through all wheel drive and a six speed automatic to a 195 mph top speed, with 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds. Standard on this generation are the organ stop metal vents, a Breitling dash clock and switchgear machined from real metal rather than moulded plastic. The fabric roof works up to 20 mph. There is no rotating display or active anti roll system on this car, those features arrived on the newer Continentals we also run.
