How It Drives
This generation's V8 is the smoother, quieter sibling to the newer Continentals we run, and the difference is in how undramatic it feels. 500 horsepower and all wheel drive get you to 60 in 4.4 seconds without the harder edge the newer V8 in our fleet has, more grand tourer than sports car. Take it along Pacific Coast Highway through Laguna Beach and the air suspension soaks up the road's expansion joints rather than letting you feel each one. The steering is light, easy through town, and the eight speed automatic never seems to hurry. It is the calmest of the four Continentals we run, built for a cruise rather than a canyon.
How It Photographs
White on white is the only monochrome specification we run, and it photographs like a fashion shoot rather than a car advertisement. With no contrast anywhere, the image depends entirely on shape, texture and light, so the stitching, the veneer and the machined metal all become the subject instead of the background. Shoot roof down in the soft overcast light common along the Newport coast in the morning, or in open shade outside Fashion Island, where the white holds its tone rather than blowing out. Close frames on the interior details matter more here than wide exterior shots, which is unusual for any car.
Why This One
White on white is the only monochrome car in our fleet, and it photographs like a fashion shoot rather than a rental listing. The other white Continental we run has a red interior instead and is nearly a full second quicker to 60, and the black car is a twelve cylinder that runs deeper and quieter. A fourth car, the First Edition, is the quickest and most heavily specified of the group at a higher rate. Book this one when the images are the deliverable and the calmest, most editorial version of the car is what the day calls for.
What's On This One
This is the Continental GTC in its earlier V8 specification, finished in white with a white leather interior throughout. The 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 makes 500 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque, sent through all wheel drive and an eight speed automatic to a 192 mph top speed. The hides are cut from cattle raised without fences, so the leather arrives without scarring, and the wood veneers are book matched so the grain mirrors across the dashboard. Organ stop metal vents and a Breitling dash clock are standard on every Continental we run. This car does not have the rotating display or the active anti roll system fitted to the newer Continentals in our fleet.
