A compact Mercedes van rebuilt as a lounge for 7, with a lit ceiling and a sliding door.
The Mercedes-Benz Metris is the compact Mercedes van, short enough for a standard parking space, and ours carries a Maybach-style conversion with a white quilted lounge for 7 under a lit ceiling. Renters book it for the group that wants to arrive together and ride facing each other on the way, over an Escalade that seats 7 in rows.
Up front it is an easy van, a 208 hp turbo 4 cylinder, light steering and a high seat looking down over the chrome grille, and it tracks straight on the freeway. The point is the back, so it is the van for the hotel driveway where the door slides open and 7 people step out.
Mercedes sells the Metris in 2 factory forms, passenger and cargo, on the same 208 hp turbo 4 cylinder with rear-wheel drive. Ours is a passenger van rebuilt by an aftermarket shop as a Maybach-style conversion, not a Mercedes-Maybach product.
The Metris Passenger Van is the base under our conversion, in two-tone silver over black with a white diamond-quilted cabin. The factory van seats 7 or 8 in 3 rows, and the conversion keeps 7, with 2 power captain chairs, a rear bench, a lit starlight ceiling, a wood console with a screen and a chrome vertical-bar grille. 208 hp, 258 lb-ft, rear-wheel drive.
The Metris Cargo Van is the same body with no rear seats and no rear side windows, built to carry tools and parts rather than people. It shares the 208 hp turbo 4 cylinder, the automatic gearbox and the sliding side door with the passenger van. We do not run the cargo van.
