Ferrari 296 GTS Rental in Los Angeles

The Rosso Corsa red Ferrari 296 GTS with the black and red striped interior is based in Los Angeles. It is the open Ferrari for the drive itself, a silent roll out of a Beverly Hills street at 6 in the morning and then 819 hp once the road clears. Book it for the canyon day, the coast day, or the photo that needs the roof down. It reaches Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.

THE DRIVE

How It Drives

Double press the pad on the wheel and nothing happens, or nothing you can hear. The 296 GTS wakes in Hybrid on the electric motor, so the first mile out of a residential street is silent. Leave the eManettino in eDrive and it stays that way for about 15 miles. Then press the throttle properly and the 3.0L twin-turbo V6 lights behind your head with the roof already down, higher pitched than a Ferrari V8, which is why the engineers called it the little V12. 819 hp combined and rear-wheel drive, 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. The 8-speed dual-clutch is instant on the paddles. The steering is light and quick, so the first corner arrives early. Take it up Latigo Canyon Road from PCH at an easy pace and let the V6 climb toward 8,500 rpm between the hairpins.

THE LOOK

How It Photographs

Rosso Corsa over black with red centre stripes is the pairing people expect from a Ferrari, and roof down this one delivers it. In direct sun the red goes flat and bright, so shoot it in open shade or in the last hour when the paint turns deep. After dark the red reads almost black under street light and the headlights carry the frame. Take the rear three-quarter with the roof stowed and the 2 buttresses showing. Shoot close on the carbon seat back with the red stripe and the Cavallino in the headrest. Shoot it where these photos were taken, on Rodeo Drive and the palm-lined streets of Beverly Hills early on a weekend morning.

THE PICK

Why This One

We run 2 cars from the 296 family. The other is a white 296 GTB coupe with a red interior based in Orange County. This is the only 296 GTS we have, the only open 296, and the one based in Los Angeles. If the brief is roof down on PCH or a silent early start out of Beverly Hills, this is the only car in our lineup that does both. Red over black with red stripes is the classic Ferrari pairing. The GTB is the quieter white.

THE BUILD

What's On This One

This is the 296 GTS, the retractable hardtop version of the 296. The roof folds in about 14 seconds and works at up to 28 mph. Standard on the GTS is the 3.0L twin-turbo V6 plug-in hybrid at 819 hp combined, the 8-speed dual-clutch, rear-wheel drive, carbon ceramic brakes, the curved digital display and the haptic steering wheel. The paint is Rosso Corsa. The wheels are silver 5-spoke with red calipers behind them. Inside it is black leather and Alcantara with red centre stripes on the seats, red seatbelts, a Cavallino in each headrest, carbon seat backs, a carbon steering wheel with shift lights, and a 296 GTS plate on the passenger side of the dash.
