The red Ferrari 488 Pista with the black and red interior is based in Los Angeles. It is the track-bred 488, the car you book when the drive is the point and the badge is the bonus. 710 hp, a stripe down the middle, and a cabin stripped back to Alcantara with red through it. Delivery is available across Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.
The engine is the point. The 3.9L twin-turbo V8 in the Pista is the race version of the 488 engine, with a lighter Inconel manifold and an intake from the 488 Challenge car, and it makes 710 hp at 8,000 rpm. Press the red button on the wheel and it fires with a crack, a hard flat V8 bark that gets louder as it climbs. The car is around 200 lb lighter than a 488 GTB, so every surface change comes through. Ferrari limits torque in the low gears, so the push builds like a big naturally aspirated engine, and 0 to 60 is 2.9 seconds. The steering is quick and light, and the first corner comes early. Take it up Angeles Crest Highway on a weekday morning, at a pace that respects the road.
Red with a black and silver stripe from nose to tail is a race-car read, and the stripe is what separates this car in every frame. In direct sun the red flares and the stripe goes dark, so shoot in open shade or late in the day when the red deepens and the stripe reads as 2 clean lines. After dark the red drops away and the stripe catches whatever light there is. Take the head-on low shot with the stripe running at the lens. Shoot close on the 488 Pista plate on the dash. These photos were taken in an underground garage, so outside take it to the Latigo Canyon turnout above PCH, or Griffith Observatory at dusk.
We run 4 cars from the 488 family. There is a white 488 Spider with a red interior here in Los Angeles, a black 488 GTB in San Diego and a grey 488 Spider in Orange County. This is the only Pista we have, and the only one of the 4 with 710 hp, the stripe and the Alcantara cabin. Book the Spider for the roof and the shape everybody knows. Book this one for the version Ferrari built for the driver, the lightest and hardest-edged of the 4.
This is the 488 Pista, the lightweight track version of the 488 and the top trim of that family. Standard on the Pista is the 710 hp 3.9L twin-turbo V8 with the Inconel manifold, the 7-speed dual-clutch, rear-wheel drive, carbon ceramic brakes, the S-duct through the nose, Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer and the Alcantara cabin. This one is red with the optional centre stripe in black and silver, on black wheels. Inside it is black Alcantara with red centre stripes on the seats, red stitching, a red band across the dash under the 488 Pista plate, and a red centre marker at the top of the steering wheel.
