Ferrari F8 Spider Rental in Los Angeles

The red Ferrari F8 Spider with the black and red stitched interior is based in Los Angeles. It is the Ferrari people picture when they say Ferrari, red and open, and the one to book when the photo matters as much as the drive. 710 hp, a roof that folds in 14 seconds, and a cabin with real buttons. It goes out to clients across Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.

THE DRIVE

How It Drives

Hold the button on the centre console and the roof folds in about 14 seconds, at up to 28 mph, so you can do it pulling away from the valet. Roof down, the 3.9L twin-turbo V8 is right behind your head with no bodywork between you and the exhaust. Press the red button and it fires hard, then drops to a murmur at a cruise. 710 hp at 8,000 rpm, and Ferrari builds the torque by gear, so it feels like a big naturally aspirated engine until the whoosh gives it away. 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. The steering is quick and heavier than a 488's, so the first corner still arrives early. Take it along PCH from Santa Monica to Malibu with the roof down and you can still talk at 50 mph.

THE LOOK

How It Photographs

Red over black with red stitching is the pairing everyone expects, so the job is to make it look like this car and not a stock photo. In direct sun the red flares and the silver wheels go white, so shoot in open shade where the red stays deep and the yellow calipers show. After dark the red goes almost black and the quad tail lights carry the frame. Take the rear three-quarter with the roof stowed and the 2 buttresses behind the headrests. Shoot close on the carbon steering wheel with the rev counter behind it. These photos were taken under a big ficus on a Los Angeles residential street. Repeat that look on the flats of Beverly Hills.

THE PICK

Why This One

We run 5 cars from the F8 family, and this is the only F8 Spider based in Los Angeles. The other 4 are a red Spider in Orange County and 3 Tributo coupes, red over tan in Orange County, red over black in San Diego, and black over blue here in Los Angeles. If the brief is red, open and picked up in Los Angeles, this is the only car that answers it. For the coupe and a quieter spec, see the black Tributo with the blue interior.

THE BUILD

What's On This One

This is the F8 Spider, the retractable hardtop version of the F8. Standard on it is the 710 hp 3.9L twin-turbo V8 with the Inconel manifold, the 7-speed dual-clutch, rear-wheel drive, carbon ceramic brakes, magnetic dampers with bumpy road mode, the S-duct through the nose, quad tail lights and a roof that folds in about 14 seconds. This one is red on silver 5-spoke wheels with yellow calipers. Inside it is black leather with red stitching and red piping on the seats, a carbon steering wheel with the Cavallino centre, the big central rev counter, and Ferrari sill plates. The roof stows over the engine, so the front trunk is free whether the roof is up or down.
