The folding-hardtop Ferrari convertible built to be the easiest car in the range to drive every day.
The Ferrari Portofino is a front-engined, four-seat convertible built to be the easiest car in the range to drive every day, its folding metal hardtop lowering in 14 seconds at up to 25 mph where the California T had to stop to fold its roof. It goes to nervous first-time renters, weddings, and couples who want the destination as much as the drive.
The lightest, most forgiving steering in the Ferrari range guides you through the first few turns, and the pull builds steadily rather than shoving you back in the seat. The Ferrari Portofino suits a couple, a wedding photo session, or a weekend with the roof down.
The Ferrari Portofino suits a couple more than a solo enthusiast. Two adults ride in real comfort up front, with two smaller rear seats sized for a child or extra luggage, and the trunk takes a roller bag even with the roof lowered. It is the Ferrari to book for a nervous first-time renter, a wedding with a church ceremony and a photo session, or a weekend where the destination matters as much as the drive. Roof up, the V8 sounds fuller than the same engine does in the standard 488, since the turbo housings are cast directly into the cylinder heads, which suits a renter who wants some drama without giving up the folding roof.
Ferrari sold the Portofino in two versions, the original car and the sharper Portofino M that followed it. Both are retractable hardtop convertibles with rear seats. Prometheus Exotics runs the original Portofino.
The Ferrari Portofino is the original version and the car in our fleet. A 3.9 liter twin turbo V8 makes 592 hp through a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, and the folding aluminium hardtop opens the car in about 14 seconds. It carries the softest steering and brake tuning of any Ferrari we run, with no Race mode on the manettino and the best ride quality in our Ferrari fleet.
The Ferrari Portofino M is the updated version and it is not in our fleet. Output rose to 612 hp, an 8-speed dual clutch gearbox replaced the 7-speed unit, and a revised exhaust sharpened the note. A 5 position manettino adds Race mode, which firms the damping and steering, so the M trades some of the original car's compliance for sharper responses.
