The turquoise Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder with the black and yellow interior is based in Los Angeles. This is the roof-down car for the day that is supposed to be photographed, a birthday on Pacific Coast Highway, a proposal with the passenger in full view, a shoot that needs a colour nobody else brought. It is delivered across Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.
Start with the roof. It folds in 17 seconds at up to 31 mph, so you can drop it rolling out of a hotel driveway, and the hard tonneau closes over it so the frunk stays free. With it down, the 5.2L V10 sits a few inches behind your head with nothing between you and it. Flip the red flap, press the button, and it barks once then settles to a civil hum in Strada. The 7-speed twin-clutch creeps through traffic like a normal automatic and the rear-wheel steering shrinks the car in a valet lane. Then Pacific Coast Highway opens up past Santa Monica, you toggle Sport, and every lift of the throttle sends a crackle back off the bluffs. Raise the small rear glass and you can still hold a conversation at 50 mph.
This turquoise reads like pool water next to the black wheels and the yellow calipers. In direct sun the paint goes flat and pastel, so shoot it low with the ocean behind and let the sky do the gradient. In open shade it deepens toward teal. After dark the colour is gone and you are left with yellow stitching, so keep the colour shots for daytime. Take the rear three-quarter with the roof down, where the roll hoops and the yellow calipers stack. Close detail, the yellow stitch line on the door against the turquoise. These were shot on the sand lot at Zuma in Malibu with the bluffs behind, which is where to shoot it.
We run 6 Huracan Evo Spyders and this is the only one based in Los Angeles. It is also the only open Huracan we keep here, so if you want the V10 with no roof and a pickup in Beverly Hills or Malibu, this is the car. The other Evo Spyders are black or a deeper blue. None of them is this colour. At $1,295 a day it sits at the same rate as our Orange County Evo Spyders and under the 2 we run in San Diego.
This is the Evo Spyder, the open version of the Huracan Evo, so it carries the Evo's rear-wheel steering, torque vectoring, all-wheel drive, the 8.4-inch portrait touchscreen with CarPlay and the LDVI controller that sets the car up a beat before each corner. The fabric roof folds under a hard tonneau and carbon ceramic brakes are standard. On this car the paint is Blu Glauco, a light turquoise, over black wheels with yellow brake calipers. Inside it is a black interior with yellow contrast stitching on the seats, doors and steering wheel, yellow-edged floor mats and the red start flap on the centre console. 2 seats and a 150 litre frunk that the roof does not touch.
