This McLaren 750S Spider in McLaren's signature yellow over a black cabin is based in Orange County. Yellow is the loudest colour we run, built to be noticed by anyone from across Fashion Island, not just the fellow enthusiasts our papaya orange 750S Spider draws, and it carries the lower deposit of the two.
This is the quickest car in our McLaren fleet at 2.7 seconds to sixty, and the gains over the 720S it replaced are spread across the whole car rather than stacked into the engine alone, lighter wheels, a quicker steering rack, shorter gearing. 740 horsepower and 590 lb-ft arrive through a centre-exit exhaust standard on this generation, louder than the older 720S, and carbon ceramic brakes come standard as well, firm until you press through the initial travel. Take Santiago Canyon Road with the roof stowed and the rear window down and the V8 turns every gearchange above the canyon walls into an event on its own.
Yellow is McLaren's signature colour, and on this 750S it photographs like a race car in a way no other finish in our fleet manages. It reads instantly on a small screen, survives being tiny in a wide frame, and needs nothing behind it to work, which makes Newport Coast Drive and the climb toward Pelican Hill an easy backdrop rather than a competing one. Direct midday sun will blow out the saturation, so shoot in open shade or in the later light on that same road instead. Roof down with the doors up is the image. The black cabin stays out of the way and lets the yellow paint carry the whole frame.
Of the two 750S Spiders we keep, this is the one in McLaren's own signature yellow, the loudest colour we run on any McLaren and the most visible car in the fleet from a genuine distance. Book it when the requirement is to be noticed by everyone, not just the people who already know McLaren, which is the difference between this car and our papaya orange 750S Spider. Mechanically they are identical, 740 horsepower, 2.7 seconds to sixty, the same standard carbon ceramic brakes and centre-exit exhaust. This car also carries the lower overage rate and the smaller deposit of the two, at $3 a mile and $1,000 against the orange car's $6 a mile and $2,000.
This is a 750S Spider, the open version of McLaren's final model without any hybrid system, in McLaren's signature yellow over a black cabin. It carries 740 horsepower and 590 lb-ft from a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 sent to the rear wheels only. Carbon ceramic brakes and a centre-exit exhaust are both standard on this car. The roof is a single piece carbon hardtop that folds in eleven seconds. Inside, McLaren's rocker toggles sit fixed either side of the instrument binnacle, and CarPlay comes standard on this generation, the first time McLaren offered it.
