How It Drives
Start with the silence. Press the button and nothing happens you can hear. The Artura wakes in Comfort with the engine off and rolls out of a Beverly Hills driveway on the electric motor alone. Reverse is electric too, there is no reverse gear. Around 40 mph or when you ask for more, the 3.0L twin-turbo V6 lights behind you, and from then on it is a McLaren. Electric torque fills the gap while the turbos spool, so the pull is clean from any speed, 690 hp and 60 in 3.0 seconds. The 8-speed dual-clutch blips every downshift. The turn-in is sharp and a locking differential pulls you out of corners. Take Sunset Boulevard west through the Beverly Hills flats toward the Bel Air gates and drop the roof at a light. 11 seconds, up to 31 mph.
How It Photographs
Gloss black with orange calipers rewards a careful frame. In direct sun the paint mirrors whatever is above it, so a row of palms becomes stripes down the door. In open shade it goes deep and the orange calipers turn into the only colour on the car. After dark the body disappears and you shoot the headlamp line and the orange stitching through the open roof. Take the rear three-quarter with the roof down so the buttresses and the exhaust sit under a line of palms. Shoot the caliper close through the black spokes. These were taken on a palm-lined residential street in Beverly Hills in early light, and that is where to shoot it.

This one is gloss black over black Alcantara with orange stitching and orange calipers, the only gloss black one.
