White Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon AMG G63, the best car to rent for a Coachella weekend in the desert

The best car to rent for Coachella is the white Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon AMG G63. It seats five and rents for $595 a day. Its white paint keeps every edge sharp in photos under hard desert sun. If seven of you share one house, take the Cadillac Escalade ESV. The Lamborghini Urus and the Range Rover cover the drive and the ride home.

Coachella 2027 runs April 9 to 11 and April 16 to 18 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. Book the car on the same day you book the house.

Where the car fits in a festival weekend

The festival grounds are the polo fields at the Empire Polo Club. The club sits in Indio, about 22 miles southeast of Palm Springs. Your weekend will probably center on a rental house or a hotel in the valley.

The car covers every hour around the sets. It meets your friends at the curb at Palm Springs Airport. It carries the cooler back from the store, takes the group to a late dinner, and handles the sunrise drive on Sunday. Coachella sells a shuttle pass with its hotel packages, so the shuttle can handle the trip to the gate.

Picture the house on Friday morning. The white G63 sits in the driveway with all four doors open. Four friends load bags and sunglasses while the V8 idles. Everyone stands in front of it for the first group photo of the weekend.

The best car to rent for Coachella is the white G63

The G63 wins because it carries a full group and still stands out in every photo. It seats five across four doors. The white one has a black interior.

Mercedes kept the ladder frame, the boxy body and the locking differentials on this car. Then AMG added a hand built 4.0 liter V8. The engine makes 577 horsepower. The G63 reaches 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and the nose lifts when you press the gas hard.

White matters in the desert. Hard midday sun turns a black car into a flat shape in photos. On the white G63, every hinge, flare and panel edge stays visible. Park it in front of the house before you leave, and the car looks sharp in every frame.

The ride is upright and a little firm on rough pavement. It settles down once you reach the freeway. The G63 has one real limit. It holds five people, so a sixth friend means a second car. This G63 carries a $1,500 deposit, and extra miles cost $5 each.

The Urus when the drive is the point

The Lamborghini Urus is the pick when two or three of you want the drive as much as the music. The white Urus rents for $995 a day. It seats five and has a twin turbo V8 that makes 641 horsepower.

In Strada mode, the air suspension raises the body and the exhaust valves close. The Urus moves through slow traffic on Highway 111 without the jerky feel of a supercar gearbox. Its eight speed automatic uses a torque converter. That is why it creeps so smoothly at walking speed.

The roads empty out late at night. On an open stretch, the Urus reaches 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. The white paint shows the big front air intakes from across a parking lot. When you pull up to dinner, the valet sees the Lamborghini shape before the badge. This Urus carries a $2,000 deposit, and extra miles cost $3 each.

Coachella car rental for a group of seven

Seven friends in one house need the Cadillac Escalade ESV. The ESV is the long version of the Escalade. It seats seven, and the long body leaves room behind the third row for bags and a cooler.

The white ESV Sport Platinum rents for $495 a day. It has a black interior and a 6.2 liter V8 that makes 420 horsepower. Air Ride Adaptive Suspension reads the road and softens bumps before you feel them.

Picture the end of a long Saturday. All seven of you climb in for the ride back to the house, and nobody waits for a second car. At night, the vertical light bars front and rear glow against the white body. The Escalade carries a $1,000 deposit, and extra miles cost $4 each.

The Range Rover for the ride home

The black Range Rover SE is the car for the long drive home on Monday. It rents for $595 a day. Its 3.0 liter straight six uses a mild hybrid system and makes 395 horsepower.

The ride is the reason to book it. Air suspension and a quiet cabin make the I-10 toward Los Angeles feel shorter. All wheel steering turns the rear wheels too. That lets the long body turn around on a narrow street outside a rental house.

The black paint and flush door handles keep the outside plain. After three days of crowds, you may want plain. This Range Rover carries a $1,000 deposit, and extra miles cost $3 each. Chauffeur service is available on request on the Range Rover and the Escalade.

Festival weekend rates, deposits and miles

Each rate below is for one day with 100 miles included.

  • White Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon AMG G63, $595 a day, $1,500 deposit, $5 per extra mile
  • White Lamborghini Urus, $995 a day, $2,000 deposit, $3 per extra mile
  • White Cadillac Escalade ESV Sport Platinum, $495 a day, $1,000 deposit, $4 per extra mile
  • Black Range Rover SE, $595 a day, $1,000 deposit, $3 per extra mile

A Thursday to Sunday booking is 4 days. Rentals of 3 to 4 days take 10% off the daily rate. That brings the white G63 down to $535.50 a day.

The miles pool across the trip, so 4 days include 400 miles. You might start the weekend at home in Newport Beach and drive out with the group. If so, say it at booking. The extra miles get priced in ahead of time instead of billed after.

The deposit is a hold on your card, not a charge. It's released after the car comes back in the condition it left.

Booking and paperwork before you fly in

A week or two covers most dates. Coachella weekends go first, along with summer weekends and holiday weekends. So book the car as soon as you have the passes and the house.

We deliver to the rental house, the hotel, or the curb at Palm Springs Airport. You can also take the car at LAX and make the drive out yourself. The delivery fee is quoted by address. Picture the G63 at the curb when you walk out of the terminal, already pointed toward the valley.

You can rent any of these cars at 18. You need a valid driver's license and proof of full coverage insurance in your own name. A larger deposit may apply if you're under 25. Before the rental, we call your insurance company and confirm the coverage with an agent on a recorded line.

Anyone else who drives goes on the contract before the rental starts. That driver passes the same license and insurance check as you. If there's drinking at the house or after the sets, there's a chauffeur or a sober driver for the ride home.

Picking your festival car

Count the people in the house first. Five fits the G63 or the Urus, and seven needs the Escalade ESV. Then decide how the group gets home. If two friends need to get back to Beverly Hills on Sunday night, the Range Rover takes them home.

The festival covers three days, and the car covers every hour around it. Pick it for the driveway photo on Friday and the drive home on Monday.
