Should I rent the Huracan Spyder or the coupe?

Can I take a Huracan on a canyon road?

Yes. It's one of the best canyon cars we have because of the all-wheel drive and rear steering. Watch the nose on driveways and pullouts, because the front splitter is low and it's the most common damage we see.

How much is the security deposit on a Huracan?

$1,000 on most of our Huracans and $2,000 on the Evo Spyders. It's a hold on your card, not a charge, and it's released after the car comes back in the condition it left.

Yes, the Lamborghini Huracan Evo is worth renting, and it's the supercar I'd point a first-timer at. It's $1,295 a day for the coupe or the Spyder. The 5.2 liter V10 makes 631 horsepower in the coupe and 640 in the Spyder, it's all-wheel drive, and it's the easiest car in our fleet to drive fast without scaring yourself. Deposit is $1,000 to $2,000.

We have the Evo coupe in black and the Evo Spyder in blue and in black. If you want the older Huracan, we also have those, including a green one and a pink one, from $1,195.

Why it's the easy one

The Evo has a computer that reads what you're doing and adjusts the all-wheel drive, the rear steering, and the torque split in real time. What that means in practice is that you feel like a hero and the car is doing most of the work. It rotates into corners, it pulls out of them with all 4 tires, and it catches you before you know you needed catching. A rear-wheel drive Ferrari makes you earn it. The Huracan just lets you have it.

The engine

It sits right behind your head and it's not turbocharged, which matters. When you press the start button it barks. In Strada mode it's civilized enough to drive to dinner. In Sport or Corsa the exhaust opens up above 5,000 rpm and it screams all the way to 8,500. 0 to 60 is 2.9 seconds in the coupe. It feels faster because it never lets up.

Living with it for a day

Visibility is better than most mid-engine cars. The cabin fits anyone under about 6 foot 3. The screen and the controls are modern. The ride in Strada is firm but not punishing.

The compromise is storage. The front trunk fits one small bag. If you're going somewhere for the weekend, pack light or send the luggage in a second car.

Spyder or coupe

Same price in our fleet, so it's about the experience. Top down, the V10 fills the cabin with nothing in the way, and a blue Lamborghini convertible through Newport or Malibu is the picture people have in their head when they book. For an occasion, get the Spyder. For a canyon run where you want the stiffest car, the coupe is slightly more focused.

Who should rent it

First-time supercar renters. Anyone renting for a birthday, a proposal, or a photo shoot. Anyone who wants the loudest, most recognizable car in the fleet for the money. It's the car that sells the idea of renting an exotic to people who've never done it, and after handing a lot of people keys, I think that's because it delivers exactly what they pictured.
