How It Drives
The S changes how this Bentayga sounds and how it holds itself through a corner, not how hard it pulls. Bentley fits a free flowing exhaust with fewer baffles in the silencer, so the same 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 that powers the standard Bentayga now pops and grumbles on the overrun, loudest through a tunnel on Angeles Crest Highway where the walls throw the sound back at you. Sport suspension firms the air springs by 15% and a recalibrated stability system sharpens turn-in, so a 2.4 tonne SUV holds a line through the canyon's switchbacks with less lean than its height suggests. Zero to 60 arrives in 4.4 seconds, with the twin turbos responding from low in the rev range and almost no lag.
How It Photographs
Black on black with a red interior is the nightlife specification, and it works because the exterior gives away nothing. Shoot it at night outside a restaurant Downtown or against the glass of a West Hollywood hotel and the matte and gloss black surfaces, the blacked out grille and the black split tailpipes disappear into the shadows rather than reflecting light. Open a door and the red leather is the reveal a wide exterior shot cannot show. Daylight works too, parked against the palm trees on Rodeo Drive, where the black paint holds a hard, clean line and the S's carbon fibre trim and red stitching only show up close.
Why This One
This is the only Bentayga in our fleet, so it competes with the rest of the Bentleys we run rather than with another color. Pick it over a Continental GTC when the day needs five real seats, a usable boot and a ride height that shrugs off a steep driveway. Pick it over the Flying Spur when you want to hear the car working, since the S's sports exhaust is the loudest thing in our Bentley lineup. Black on black and red keeps the exterior serious for daytime errands and saves the personality for whoever gets in. It is the SUV in our fleet built to be driven hard and then disappear into a parking structure.

This is the Bentayga S, the performance version of Bentley's SUV, finished in black with a black and red interior. The 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 makes 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque through all wheel drive, with the S's free flowing sports exhaust and a Sport suspension tune standard on this trim. Blackline specification is also standard, so the grille, mirrors, sills and tailpipes run gloss black rather than chrome, with 22 inch S design wheels and a larger rear spoiler. Inside, fluted seats with Alcantara panels and an embroidered S motif replace the standard Bentayga's wood and leather, alongside the organ stop metal vents Bentley fits across the range.
