THE DRIVE

How It Drives

The 6.2L supercharged V8 is the whole difference. Cold start is a thunderclap, then it settles into a deep idle, and with the active exhaust open it is a V8 you hear from the next block. 682 hp and all-wheel drive move a 7-seat truck to 60 in 4.4 seconds. Pull the column shifter into drive and in the quiet mode it is an Escalade, soft, light steering, the magnetic dampers and air springs soaking up the road. The 55 inch screen runs the full width of the dash. The ESV body is nearly 227 inches long, so it wants the freeway and the hotel drive, not the canyon. Take it down the 405 at night, or roll it to the Nobu Malibu valet, where the parked car is part of the show. Chauffeur service available on request.

THE LOOK

How It Photographs

Black over ivory is the Escalade-V spec that photographs from the inside out. In direct sun the gloss paint mirrors the sky, so shoot it in open shade where the black 24 inch wheels, the red calipers and the V grille mesh show. After dark the vertical lamps turn it into 2 columns of light and the ivory cabin glows through the glass. The frame to take is the rear three-quarter for the full ESV length. The close detail is the second row, the ivory captain's chairs. These photos were shot outside a stone church with a lawn. In Los Angeles, shoot it in front of the Beverly Wilshire, or at Griffith Observatory at night with the city behind it.

THE PICK

Why This One

This is the only Escalade-V we run and the only Escalade with an ivory interior. It is also the only long-body Escalade based in Los Angeles. The other Los Angeles Escalade is the Sport Platinum at $495 on the standard body. This one is $895, 682 hp, the 55 inch screen and a third row that fits adults with 41.5 cubic feet of bags behind them. If the booking is a group of 6 and the arrival needs to be heard, nothing else we have does that.

THE BUILD

What's On This One

This is the Escalade-V in the long ESV body, the updated car with the vertical lamps and the 55 inch pillar-to-pillar display. The V brings the 6.2L supercharged V8 with 682 hp, all-wheel drive, Magnetic Ride Control with air springs, Brembo brakes with red calipers, the quad active exhaust and 24 inch wheels, here in gloss black. The body is black with the V mesh grille and black trim. Inside it is ivory white leather in all 3 rows, second row captain's chairs with dual rear screens, the column shifter, the full-width screen and the touchscreen below it. 4 doors, 7 seats, with 36.7 inches of third row legroom and 41.5 cubic feet of cargo behind the third row.
