Ferrari F12berlinetta Rental in Los Angeles

It is the front-engined V12 for the person who wants the engine more than the audience, 730 hp with no turbos, 2 seats, a long hood and a cabin trimmed in carbon. Book it for a V12 day on the coast or an arrival at a Beverly Hills hotel entrance like the one in these photos. Delivery covers Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.

THE DRIVE

How It Drives

You sit well back in the car and the hood runs out in front of you like a runway. That is because the 6.3L V12 sits behind the front axle line, which is why an F12 turns in like a smaller car. Press the red button on the wheel and the V12 catches with a bark and settles into a busy idle. It is naturally aspirated, 730 hp at 8,250 rpm, and it pulls from low revs to an 8,700 rpm redline with no lag at any point. The 7-speed dual-clutch snaps up through the gears on the paddles. The steering is quick, the first corner arrives early, and the carbon ceramic brakes squeal cold. Take it down Sunset Boulevard through the Beverly Hills flats at a crawl, then out to PCH where fourth gear finally has room.

THE LOOK

How It Photographs

Satin black over black with red stitching is a stealth pairing, and the car reads as a shape rather than a colour. In direct sun the satin finish stays flat and the long hood shows every curve, so midday works here where it would ruin a gloss car. In open shade the body turns charcoal and the yellow calipers are the only colour. After dark only the tail lights and calipers register. Take the low front three-quarter with the hood filling the frame. Shoot close on the yellow caliper inside the black wheel. These photos were taken at a Beverly Hills hotel entrance, and the Beverly Hills Hotel drive at dusk is the place for it.

THE PICK

Why This One

This is the only F12berlinetta we run. It fills a spot nothing else in our lineup fills, a satin black front-engined V12 coupe based in Los Angeles with 730 hp and a carbon cabin. If the brief is the sound of 12 cylinders with no turbo in the way, and a car that does not need to be red to be a Ferrari, this is the car. If you need the roof to fold, the grey 812 GTS is the Los Angeles alternative with the same engine family.

THE BUILD

What's On This One

This is the F12berlinetta, the front-engined V12 coupe, in its one factory trim. Standard on it is the 6.3L naturally aspirated V12 at 730 hp, the 7-speed dual-clutch, rear-wheel drive, carbon ceramic brakes, magnetic dampers with bumpy road mode, and the Aero Bridge channels cut through the hood. This one is finished in satin black on black wheels with yellow calipers. Inside it is black leather with red stitching on the seats, doors and dash, a Cavallino stitched in red into each headrest, carbon on the centre bridge, the dash vents and the steering wheel, and a red Ferrari key that lives on the console.
