Under the white paint this is a full specification Maybach GLS 600, so the mechanism is the same as every other one in our fleet, a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 with mild hybrid assistance sending 550 horsepower through all wheel drive to sixty in 4.6 seconds. What you notice first is the air suspension reading the road ahead of the front wheels and adjusting each corner before it arrives, which is why a stretch of Newport Coast Drive that would upset a normal SUV disappears under this one. The rear seats are the actual point, reclining well past a normal position while the cabin stays close to silent. You feel arrival, not the road.

Open a rear door and shoot the red cabin with a seat reclined, since that frame is what actually explains the car. Direct sun is fine here, which is not true of the rest of the fleet.

The rear compartment is configured as two individual seats with recline, heating, cooling and massage function, and a fixed console in place of a middle seat. The red leather is a higher interior tier than the black or grey cabins we also run. An electric running board lowers at the door on approach, standard to this model.
