The blue McLaren 570S Spider with the orange pinstripe and the black alcantara interior is based in Los Angeles. This is the way into the dihedral doors and the hydraulic steering with the roof off, at $995 a day, for the first-supercar day, the proposal or the drive that is the whole point of the weekend. Book it for delivery in Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.
The sill comes first. There is no door handle, you find the button under the door, it swings out and up, and you sit on the edge of the carbon tub and swing both legs in together. Then the hardtop folds behind you and the 3.8L twin-turbo V8 starts with a short bark and a busy idle. Below 3,500 rpm it needs a beat to wind up, then it runs hard past 8,000 with a turbo whoosh behind your head. The steering is hydraulic, heavy at parking speed and alive on the road, and with conventional anti-roll bars the car feels light and playful. The carbon ceramic brakes feel dead until you press hard. Take it up Mulholland Drive from Coldwater Canyon, roof down, in Sport, and the front end grips the first corner before you expect it.
Vega Blue is a deep metallic blue, and the orange pinstripe on the splitter, sills, rear wing lip and diffuser is the detail that makes this car. In direct sun the blue goes bright and the orange line almost vanishes, so shoot it in open shade, where the blue deepens and the orange reads sharp. After dark the orange edge catches every street light. Open both doors and drop the roof for the front shot, the doors standing up over the black alcantara seats with their white centre stripes. Close detail, the red caliper behind the dark spokes and the orange sill line. Shoot it at the Griffith Observatory lot at dusk, or on the Sunset Strip at night.
We run 3 open 570S Spiders and this is the only one based in Los Angeles. The other 570S here is the black coupe at the same $995 a day, so this is the one when the roof has to come off. The green Spider in Orange County is $895 and the satin grey one in San Diego is $1,195. This blue car is the only 570S we have with the orange pinstripe and white-striped seats. For the doors-up, roof-down photo in Los Angeles, this is the car.
The 570S Spider is the open 570S, with a retractable hardtop that folds under a tonneau behind the seats. It carries the 3.8L twin-turbo V8 with 562 hp, rear-wheel drive, a 7-speed twin-clutch, a carbon fibre tub, hydraulic steering, adaptive dampers, carbon ceramic brakes and the dihedral doors. This car is Vega Blue with an orange pinstripe on the front splitter, side sills, rear wing lip and rear diffuser, carbon fibre mirror casings, dark multi-spoke wheels and red brake calipers. Inside it is black alcantara on the seats, dash and doors, with a white stripe down the centre of each seat and white stitching. 2 seats and a 150 litre frunk.
