McLaren 675LT Rental in Los Angeles

The Napier Green McLaren 675LT with the black alcantara interior is based in Los Angeles. This is the Longtail, a limited run of 500 coupes built lighter, louder and sharper than the car it came from, for the driver who wants the rarest McLaren shape in a colour that is impossible to miss, and for the shoot that needs a car almost nobody has in frame. It serves Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.

THE DRIVE

How It Drives

Weight is the mechanism here. The 675LT dropped 100 kg from the car it was built on, with a titanium exhaust, carbon panels and carbon fibre bucket seats, then the 3.8L twin-turbo V8 was pushed to 666 hp. The door swings up, you sit on the sill of the carbon tub and drop into a seat that holds you by the ribs. The V8 starts with a bark harder than a 570S because of that exhaust, and the 2 pipes exit high in the centre of the tail. Below 3,500 rpm it gathers itself, then it goes, 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds. The carbon ceramic brakes need a firm foot. Take it up Angeles Crest in Sport, and the longer tail and the big airbrake keep it planted through the sweepers. Respect the road.

THE LOOK

How It Photographs

Napier Green is a lime that leans yellow, and it is the colour the 675LT was launched in. In direct sun it goes almost fluorescent and the long tail, the side scoops and the raised airbrake all show as shadow lines. In open shade it settles to a true lime and the green calipers behind the silver spokes become the detail. After dark it holds colour under street light. Take the rear straight on, where the 2 centre-exit exhausts, the airbrake and the diffuser stack. Close detail, the green caliper through the wheel. These photos were not shot in Los Angeles. Shoot it on a Downtown Los Angeles rooftop at dusk, or along Admiralty Way in Marina del Rey.

THE PICK

Why This One

This is the only 675LT we run, so there is no sibling to weigh it against. What it fills is the limited-run slot in our McLaren lineup, a 1 of 500 coupe at $1,995 a day with a $3,000 deposit, priced above the 570S Spider we also keep in Los Angeles. The 570S is the way in. This is the one you book when you already know what LT means and you want the Napier Green one, because that is the colour it was launched in.

THE BUILD

What's On This One

The 675LT is the Longtail version of the 650S, 1 of 500 coupes. LT brought 666 hp from a reworked twin-turbo V8, a 100 kg weight cut, a titanium exhaust with 2 centre exits, a longer rear deck with a larger airbrake, a new front splitter and side scoops, carbon fibre bucket seats, stiffer and lower suspension, a 7-speed twin-clutch, rear-wheel drive and carbon ceramic brakes, with the dihedral doors. This car is Napier Green over silver wheels with green brake calipers. Inside it is black alcantara on the carbon bucket seats, the dash, the doors and the steering wheel, with the centre stack and door tops in dark trim. 2 seats and a 150 litre frunk.
