The yellow McLaren 720S Spider with black MSO stripes and the black and yellow interior is based in Los Angeles. This is the one you book when the car has to be the subject, a music video, a birthday that will be filmed, a drive up Angeles Crest that ends in a photo you keep. Delivery runs through Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.
Start with the roof. One piece of carbon, 11 seconds, and it works at up to 31 mph, so you drop it rolling out of the driveway rather than parked outside the hotel. With it down the V8 is a foot behind your head, turbo whistle and induction, closer than you expect. Then the chassis. The 720S has no anti-roll bars. Hydraulic dampers linked corner to corner sort each wheel on its own, which is why it rides like a sedan in Comfort and stays flat when you ask more of it. On Angeles Crest Highway on a weekday morning, that is the whole car. The road rises through the San Gabriels, the turnouts open up, and the car tracks through compressions without a twitch. Keep it to the posted pace and let the view do the work.
Yellow with black stripes cannot be anywhere quietly. In direct sun the paint is the brightest thing in the frame and the stripes give it edges, running from the nose over the hood and down each flank. Under cloud it holds its colour, which is why these shots work with grey sky over the mountains. After dark yellow goes mustard under street lights, so keep the colour work for daylight. Take the full side profile with the roof down, the stripe reads end to end and the yellow calipers sit behind the black wheels. Shoot close where the stripe kinks across the door. The turnout on Angeles Crest where these were taken, San Gabriel ridgeline behind, is the location.
We run 4 McLaren 720S. 2 are Spiders based in Los Angeles, and this is the loud one. The other LA Spider is dark grey with bronze wheels. The MSO coupe in turquoise is in Palm Springs and the satin black Spider is in Orange County. This is the only one with the MSO stripe livery and the only yellow 720S we have, so if the car has to carry the frame, book this one. $1,295 a day, same as the grey Spider, with a $2,000 refundable deposit.
This is a 720S Spider with McLaren Special Operations content, which is what MSO stands for. The stripe livery over yellow is the MSO part you can see, black bands that start at the nose, run the length of the hood and carry down the sides of the body. Underneath it is the standard Spider hardware, the carbon MonoCage II tub, the one-piece retractable hardtop, the hydraulically interlinked suspension, the folding driver display and the airbrake. On this car the wheels are gloss black with yellow brake calipers behind them. Inside it is a black cabin with yellow accents. 2 seats, 710 hp, rear-wheel drive, and a frunk under the nose for a weekend bag.
