How Much Does It Cost to Rent a McLaren Once the Miles Count

Renting a McLaren from us costs $895 to $1,695 a day across the 8 we run. Anyone asking how much does it cost to rent a McLaren should know 100 miles a day come with every one of them. Most people guess the 570S sits at the bottom of that range. It doesn't. The GT does, at $895.

The top of the range is the orange 750S Spider at $1,695. Picture it with the roof down in the valet line in Beverly Hills, doors up, the papaya paint that other car people name before they read the badge. That's $800 a day above the GT, and both cars wear the same doors.

Why the cheapest McLaren rental is the GT

The GT is the McLaren built to carry luggage as well as a driver. It has 612 hp, a softer ride, and a glass tailgate over a real luggage bay. Steel brakes come standard, so the pedal feels friendlier when it's cold.

The 570S is $995, only $100 more. It's the lightest McLaren we run, with 562 hp and hydraulic steering that sends the road texture straight into your palms. On Santiago Canyon Road the V8 takes a beat to build below 3,500 rpm, then it runs hard toward the redline. That rhythm is the reason people book it.

So which one is cheapest for you depends on the day you have planned. Take the GT if you're meeting a flight at John Wayne Airport with two bags. Take the 570S if the road is the plan and the bags stay home.

Read the last column before the first one. The mile rate runs from $3 to $6 inside one brand, and it doesn't climb with the daily rate. The two cheapest miles in the row sit on the white 720S Spider and the yellow 750S Spider, both in the top half of the price list. That's the number you feel on the drive home, with the odometer climbing and the exit still ten minutes away.

The same 750S Spider at two prices

We run two 750S Spiders from the same year with the same 740 hp, 590 lb-ft, and 2.7 seconds to 60. One is yellow at $1,495 a day. The other is orange at $1,695. The paint is the only thing you'd see from the sidewalk, and it's also what the extra $200 buys.

The gap gets wider once you drive them. The yellow car carries a $1,000 deposit hold and $3 a mile past the allowance. The orange car carries a $2,000 hold and $6 a mile. Say you book 2 days and cover 320 miles, out along the coast road through Laguna Beach and back up Newport Coast Drive past Pelican Hill with the roof stowed. You get 200 miles in the pool, so 120 are extra.

• Yellow 750S Spider for 2 days, $2,990 in rate plus $360 in miles, $3,350 total.
• Orange 750S Spider for 2 days, $3,390 in rate plus $720 in miles, $4,110 total.

So a $400 difference on the rate turns into $760 by Sunday night. Nobody at the valet stand in Newport Beach knows which one cost more. They see the doors go up and a center-exit exhaust that's louder than the 720S it replaced. I'd still book the orange one for a client who wants that exact color in every photo.

How much does it cost to rent a McLaren for three days or longer

Book more days and the daily rate falls without a conversation. One or two days run at the full rate, and the first cut lands on day three.

• 3 to 4 days take 10% off. Three days in the GT comes to $2,416.50, and three in the yellow 750S Spider is $4,036.50.
• 5 to 6 days take 15% off. Five days in the white 720S Spider is $5,078.75.
• 7 to 13 days take 20% off. A full week in the 570S is $5,572, about $796 a day.
• 14 to 20 days take 30% off, 21 to 27 days take 40% off, and 28 days or more take 50% off.

Three days in the orange 750S Spider comes to $4,576.50, so the $200 color gap shrinks to $180 a day once the discount lands.

A week changes how the car sits in your life. On day one you check the mirrors every time you park it. By day five the 570S is just your car. You back it into a spot outside South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa without a second thought. Then a stranger asks to take a picture of the doors.

Two Arturas, one McLaren rental cost

Both Arturas are $1,095 a day with a $1,000 deposit hold and $5 a mile. So the choice is about the roof and nothing else on the invoice. The silver coupe makes 671 hp. The satin black Spider makes 690 hp and folds its hardtop in 11 seconds.

The Artura is a plug-in hybrid, and it leaves on electric power alone. Pull out of a hotel drive at six in the morning in Santa Monica and nobody upstairs hears a thing. The twin-turbo V6 wakes up around 40 mph, and it's higher pitched and more mechanical than any V8 in the row. There's no reverse gear at all, the electric motor just runs backward. The part nobody tells you is that satin paint can't be polished or run through an automatic wash. So keep the black Spider out of the car wash on the way home.

What the deposit covers and what it doesn't

We place the deposit as a hold on your card, and nothing is charged. We release the hold once the car is back in the condition it went out in. On our McLarens it's $1,000 or $2,000, and it follows the car, not the model. The turquoise 720S MSO holds $1,000 while the cheaper white 720S Spider holds $2,000.

The deposit covers small things, like the wheel you curb easing a 720S down a tight hotel garage ramp. Damage goes to your own insurance, subject to your deductible. We don't sell insurance, and none is built into the rate. The coverage that matters is non-owner vehicle coverage, meaning your policy reaches a car you don't own and haven't listed on your declarations page. We confirm it by phone with an agent at your carrier, on a recorded line, before the McLaren leaves. The delivery fee depends on your address, so it's quoted with the booking. Track use isn't permitted on any car in the fleet.

Where the money actually goes

Across the whole McLaren row, $800 a day separates the GT from the orange 750S. Only 0.4 seconds to 60 separates the slowest from the quickest, 3.1 seconds against 2.7. Most of what you pay for past the floor is the roof, the sound, and the color. So pay for the one you'll actually notice from the driver's seat.
