This McLaren GT in blue over a black cabin is based in Orange County, the only McLaren we run built to carry real luggage. It reads as a fast, unnamed shape parked at John Wayne Airport, built for the renter who wants the badge and an actual suitcase without giving up the mid engine layout.
How It Drives
The GT runs the same V8 family as the rest of our fleet but with smaller turbos and different plumbing built specifically for low end torque, so it pulls from lower in the rev range with less of a lag beat than a 570S or 720S. 612 horsepower and 465 lb-ft get you to sixty in 3.1 seconds, and the suspension is tuned noticeably softer, adaptive dampers rather than the interlinked hydraulic system on the bigger cars, so broken pavement on the run out to John Wayne Airport does not upset the cabin. Steel brakes come standard on this car, which means a friendlier pedal from cold than the ceramic setup on some of our other McLarens.
How It Photographs
Blue over black on this GT reads as a grand tourer rather than a track car, which is exactly the intent behind the colour and the shape. The body is longer and smoother than the 720S with a cleaner rear end, and the long glass tailgate is the detail that tells the whole story. Shoot the rear three quarter near South Coast Plaza with the tailgate open to show the luggage bay, since that is what actually separates this car from everything else in our row. The blue deepens noticeably at dusk. Dihedral doors are still standard, and they are still the frame everybody asks for first.
Why This One
This is the only car in our McLaren row you can actually pack for a weekend. There is a long luggage bay behind the engine on top of the compartment in the nose, and the suspension is tuned noticeably softer than everything else we keep with this badge. It is also the second least expensive McLaren we run. Book it when the trip runs longer than a single day, or when the plan is John Wayne Airport followed by real bags, and the alternative would mean giving up the mid engine McLaren entirely to fit the luggage somewhere else.

It carries 612 horsepower and 465 lb-ft from a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 built with smaller turbos than the other McLarens in our fleet, tuned for low end torque, sent to the rear wheels for sixty in 3.1 seconds. Steel brakes come standard, and the suspension uses adaptive dampers rather than the interlinked hydraulic system on our 720S. Behind the engine sits a 420 liter luggage bay under a glass tailgate, on top of a 150 liter compartment in the nose. This car does not have CarPlay.
