How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Corvette Depends on the Engine

Renting a Corvette from us costs $345 to $595 a day, and the engine behind your seat decides where you land. People often assume every Corvette is the cheap way into a mid-engine car. That's only half true. The answer to how much does it cost to rent a Corvette depends on whether you want the Stingray's 6.2 liter V8 or the Z06's 5.5 liter flat-plane V8.

We run 10 Corvettes, all C8s, the generation that moved the engine behind the driver. Five are Stingrays and five are Z06s. From a sidewalk in Newport Beach they share one low, wide shape. The difference shows up the moment you pull away from the valet and the revs start to climb.

Stingray or Z06, and what the extra money buys

Our Stingrays run $345 to $495 a day, and our Z06s run $545 to $595. So the cheapest Stingray and the priciest Z06 sit $250 apart, and the two closest cars are only $50 apart.

Here's the part the spec sheet hides. The Z06 makes 670 horsepower, 180 more than a Stingray, but it makes 5 less lb-ft of torque. Top speed is 195 mph against 194. So the extra money doesn't buy a faster car on the freeway. It buys an engine that sounds and pulls like something built in Europe.

The Stingray gives you torque right away. You squeeze the pedal at a light and the car just goes, with the V8 rumbling a foot behind your shoulders. Most Stingrays we run reach 60 in 2.9 seconds. The orange 3LT takes 3.5, which is the trade for the lowest rate in our fleet.

The Z06 is calm below 4,000 rpm. Past that, the flat-plane crank, a crankshaft design borrowed from race engines, lets it spin to 8,600 rpm. The note goes hard and metallic, and sixty comes in 2.6 seconds. Hold third gear on Ortega Highway and you'll understand where the $200 went.

How much does it cost to rent a Corvette Z06

A Z06 costs $545 or $595 a day. The silver 2023 car is the only one at $545, and it's mechanically identical to the rest. What you give up is color. Silver is the quiet spec, and it's the pick when the engine is the reason you're booking.

The other four run $595. Two are 2023 cars in blue and black, both over black cabins. Two are 2024 cars, a grey one over black and red, and a blue one over orange. That orange cabin is the brightest interior in our Z06 lineup. It's also the one Z06 we keep in Los Angeles, where the rest live in Orange County.

Picture that blue car at a curb in West Hollywood. The door opens and orange leather fills the gap. Nobody on the sidewalk reads the badge first, they read the color.

Every Z06 carries hardware the Stingray doesn't. The body is 3.6 inches wider. The brakes are larger Brembos, and Magnetic Ride Control, a suspension that reads the road and adjusts itself, comes standard. All five send power to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. You feel that extra width as grip in the middle of a corner, not as a number.

The Corvette rental price, car by car

Here is every Corvette we run, cheapest first, with its deposit and its rate for each mile past the allowance.

The two black Stingrays show how the Corvette daily rental price works. They're the same car with the same engine, and they're $100 apart. The only difference is the cabin. One is black with red accents, the other is white. Open the doors in an office garage in Irvine and the white one lights up the frame. If nobody's going to see inside, take the cheaper one and keep the $100.

Why the 2024 Z06s hold more and charge less per mile

The deposit and the per-mile rate move in opposite directions on our Z06s. The two 2024 cars hold $2,000 on your card and charge $3 a mile past the allowance. The three 2023 cars hold $1,000 and charge $4.

Your card sees a hold for the deposit, never a charge. We release it once the Corvette comes back in the condition it left. Every rental includes 100 miles a day, pooled across the trip, so two days give you 200 miles.

Now run a real weekend. You head down the coast road through Laguna Beach, climb Ortega Highway, and come back the long way. Say that weekend comes to 350 miles over two days, which is 150 miles over. On a 2024 car that adds $450. On a 2023 car it adds $600.

So the bigger hold saves you $150 on a long weekend. On a short night out it saves you nothing, and it ties up an extra $1,000 of your card. I'd take the 2024 car for the canyon run and a 2023 car for dinner. Tell us at booking if you expect to pass the allowance, and the extra miles get priced in up front.

What a Corvette costs for a weekend or a week

A one or two day rental pays the full daily rate. The discount starts on day three, and it's set by length alone, so there's nothing to negotiate. Three to four days take 10% off, five to six days 15%, and seven to 13 days 20%. After that it's 30% at 14 days, 40% at 21, and 50% at 28 days or more.

So a weekend in the grey Stingray is $790. Three days in the white Stingray come to $1,336.50 after the 10%. Five days in the blue and orange Z06 come to $2,528.75. A full week in the silver Z06 is $3,052, which works out to $436 a day for 670 horsepower.

That week can start with the car waiting at the curb at John Wayne Airport. We quote delivery by address, so that part of the bill depends on the curb you pick. Insurance isn't part of any rate above, and it isn't something we sell. Your own policy has to reach a rental car, and we confirm that with your carrier on a recorded line before the handoff.

What else rents near a Corvette price

The cheapest Corvette rental is the easy part. The harder question is what else that money gets you, so here are three cars people cross-shop.

The Porsche 911 Carrera starts at $395 with our blue 2018 car. That's the same rate as the grey Stingray. The 911 makes 370 horsepower and reaches 60 in 4.4 seconds, while the Stingray makes 490 and gets there in 2.9. The 911 does bring four seats and a sharper feel through the steering wheel.

The Nissan GT-R is $595 a day, the same as most of our Z06s. It's a white 2019 car with a twin turbo V6 making 565 horsepower. It drives all four wheels, seats four, and reaches 60 in 2.9 seconds. It's the one to book when two friends are coming along.

The McLaren 570S is $995 a day. It makes 562 horsepower and reaches 60 in 3.1 seconds. So a Z06 out-muscles it on paper for $400 less a day. What the 570S sells is the McLaren name at the valet stand in Malibu, and some people will pay for that happily.

Most of the $250 spread across our Corvettes buys sound and revs, not speed you'll ever use on a public road. The rest buys paint and leather. Decide which one you're paying for, and the rate picks itself.
